About Us

The National Initiative For Democracy is a joint project of the nonprofit corporations Philadelphia II and The Democracy Foundation, both of which were founded by Senator Mike Gravel to advance democracy and empower the People. At this time, Mike Gravel is running for president in the 2008 election and is currently not associated with The National Initiative, but remains one of its largest proponents.

The Democracy Foundation, incorporated in Virginia, (EIN 54-2054763). is a 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation the mission of which is to promote education and understanding of democracy. Donations to The Democracy Foundation are tax-deductible.  More

Philadelphia II, incorporated in California, is a 501(c)(4) public benefit corporation (EIN 77-0318580) whose mission is to conduct the election, on behalf of the People, for the enactment of the National Initiative for Democracy. More

The two corporations have interlocking Directorates whose members come from all walks of life, hold diverse political views, but have in common a profound and passionate commitment to the empowerment of individual citizens in a democracy.

Neither The Democracy Foundation nor Philadelphia II have any direct or indirect connection with any political party, business group, labor organization, or other partisan political organization.
